I will be presenting at the first annual Atlantic Coast Teaching of Psychology Conference http://www.monmouth.edu/ACT/default.asp . Specifically, I will be joining two of my colleagues from ESU, Irina Khusid and Jyh-Hann Chang was we hold an open discussion with mentoring undergraduates in independent research. We will be discussing our successes, particularly as it relates to students’ success in graduate school, as well as our failures and challenges. We will be encouraging group discussions, and we will be sharing data that we have collected on this process.
I will also be talking about using deliberate practice to help students become more intellectually engaged when using Mathematica demonstrations in applied statistics.
I am really looking forward to this conference, not just because September is my favorite month at the Jersey Shore (and this conference is at the beach), but because it is limited to 50 attendees, and there are some really great presenters in psychology, in general, with a focus on people who teach research and applied statistics in a psychology department. I encourage anyone who is near the area to check out this conference.
